Happy Friday!

TreesflareWe're going to one of our favorite events of the year, the concert at Memorial Park.  Fried chicken, margaritas, oreos, live music, laughter, and fireworks.  Tomorrow morning we head south to visit my grandparents.  I'm excited to see them and have a quiet weekend of good southern home cookin', some train dominoes, and maybe a little hotel swimming.  It's summertime!

Have a good weekend!!!

meet stripey

StripeyI get the "craft of the day"  emails from Martha.  And they just make me want to be crafty.  Well, for some reason I went to her website and was poking around and saw these adorable animals made out of socks and gloves.  That night, while in bed, I decided to watch a couple MSL shows that I'd tivo'd and there was a lady on her show making the same animals.  I had to make one myself.  So I downloaded and printed the instructions, found a pair of gloves, and this is what I made:  Stripey the Rabbit.  Besta is going to knit him a little scarf, which I think he desperately needs, but for now a ribbon will do.  I ordered the book Sock and Glove and received it today.  The animals are so cute, I can't wait to make more!

week five {garden}

WeekfiveOops, I missed a week.  Oh well.  At least I got photos taken for this week, just in time...

I'm here

I'm still here.  The past couple days have been very busy and very emotional.  I think we're all looking forward to getting back to normal (whatever normal is).  And looking forward to upcoming events.  We have the concert in the park on Friday, it will be our eighth consecutive year that we've gone.  Then Saturday morning we head to Missouri to visit my sweet grandparents.  We're back late on Sunday and I'll begin getting organized and ready for our trip to Santa Barbara.

We have David's uncle's cat on a possible temporary basis.  Let's just say I'm not a cat person...  But my boys love cats (all three of them), so we're giving it a try.  George has been barking a lot, especially at night, so if that doesn't improve that cat will have to go.  The last thing I need is another thing to clean up after, but we agreed to take him so I'll give it a whirl.  Most of the time we can't find the darn thing and I feel like he's creeping around the corner ready to pounce.

I'm hoping to get my gocco out this week.  I've been itching to do some printing.  And I still have lots to list on garage sale.  My mom has two new crop tops finished and we have lots of stuff from the last sale we went to.  Hopefully I'll get some of that done today.  Now, we're off to swimming lessons.

this that and the other thing

**I've listed both crop tops on garage sale.  And some other fun finds.

**Ella has so many mosquito bites that quickly turned into scabs, she looks like she's been in a boxing match.  Plus she had so many on her left eye that her eye was almost completely swollen shut a couple days ago.  Sam fell/was pushed into our brick fireplace in the basement two days ago.  He received a nice gash in his head and a lovely black eye.  Needless to say we've been laying low this week...

**I made progress on my yard yesterday.  It feels good to get things done out there.  I'd really like to plant more perennials and a couple more rose bushes.  I think this is my last year of fighting the rabbits.  My vegetable garden is doing ok.  I don't think it's getting enough sun though, because the same flowers I have planted in there are doing much better in pots on my sunny deck.  I might have to give that up too.  Or just do a container garden, which I did last year, but wasn't real happy with the results.

**I'm thinking about switching my dining and living room around.  And I would have already done it if it weren't for the piano...  That makes the decision a little trickier since I have to pay for someone to move it.  If we do go ahead, I'm hoping to get it done (plus the room painted) before we leave for California.  I better get on that!  I'd also like to get my powder room done.  I'm really itching to get some things accomplished.

**The boys started swimming lessons this week.  So far, so good.  Sam should be in the next level up, I'm so irritated.  I, of course being the rule follower that I am, told them when I signed him up that he didn't pass level one last year, but has been taking lessons all year long at the JCC and they said he was a level two.  The lifeguardhussies told me he had to pass their level one first.  I should have just signed him for level two.  I talked to them today and they were again a little snotty, and said they would challenge him and they weren't able to move him up because there is no room.  Whatever...  Now my luck will be he won't pass again this year!  :)

**I started reading The Alchemist this week.  It is really good.  Really good.  I can't wait to go to bed and read!

**And finally, David's uncle lost his battle with cancer last night.  It's been a long couple of weeks.  I'm just so glad that we are local, because David was able to spend a lot of time with him.  I took the kids over to see him last week at his house.  I forgot to bring my cell phone with me and right after we left he called David to tell him to call me and tell me not come because he was too tired.  But I didn't get the message and now I'm so glad.  Even though we were only there for a few minutes, I got to see him one more time.  There was a reason I forgot my cell phone...  He definitely was a one of a kind.

vintage crop tops

Pinkcrop PurplecropThese two little crop tops made from vintage table runners make me wish I had a brick and mortar store, because the photos just don't do them justice.  The purple one has hand appliqué, and it is absolutely exquisite.  The pink one is equally as beautiful, but Ebba can't tell if the appliqué was done by hand or not.  And speaking of Ebba, the table runners are beautiful on their own, but my mom's sewing equals the amazing craftsmanship that went into the runners themselves.  I'm adding both of these to garage sale, hopefully today.

garage sale news

My mom and I scored this weekend.  This was one of the best estate sales ever.  This lady had so much vintage stuff, it really was unbelievable.  I bought a pair of milk glass lamps with pompom shades for Ella's room, and a beautiful silk lamp shade for a recent vintage lamp I purchased.  For the shop we purchased several vintage aprons, an adorable little white and gold clutch purse, two small framed floral prints, a very shabby white tool box (which I might just keep!), lots of linens, a bowling ball bag that would make the coolest purse/overnight bag, and much more.  Now I just need to photograph, measure and price everything!

there's no crying in baseball...

CharbballdipWell, unless you're seven and hoping your team makes it to the semi-finals and then the championship, but instead loses their last game of the tourney pool.  I think though, that what made him cry was that his season was over.  Not that they didn't win, but that he wants so badly to keep playing.  And that made me very proud.

p.s.  One of the littlest guys on his team (and I mean little as in short and little as in age) is five and barely had any hits all year.  And could barely pay attention all year, which at times was confusing since it's supposed to be seven-year-olds and it appeared he should still be playing t-ball.  Well today he not only got a great hit, but caught a fly ball in the outfield.  Everyone on our side was yelling.  The coaches had their hands in the air, the little guy was jumping up and down and all of the parents were clapping and cheering.  And that my friends is what it's all about.   It was a pure little league moment at it's finest.

one more thing...

I just have to say how sad I am about Tim Russert.  I literally wrote that blog entry about tragedy and illness (you know the depressing one), and not five minutes after I finished it David called to tell me that Tim Russert was dead.  He knows how much I loved him and his show.  I think "Meet the Press" is my second favorite show after "The Office."  I know, I'm a big ol' nerd.  I just can't imagine this election without him.  He seemed so real, so genuine and I don't know if there's someone as large that can replace him.  I'll be watching the show tomorrow.  Apparently Tom Brokaw is hosting a special memorial program all about Mr. Russert.
